  • Counselling (also known as Talking Therapy) provides a service for those looking for support and treatment for a wide range of mental health and emotional concerns, such as anxiety and depression. Counselling with me may involve tackling problems at the time of crisis, or we may focus on longer-term psychological problems. I offer one-to-one, but other counsellors may offer couple or group therapy. My counselling session is usually 50 minutes and is held once a week. Some charities or agencies often offer a set number of sessions, but counsellors like myself, in private practice tend to be more flexible to suit your individual needs.

  • Only you can decide whether you need counselling or not. Talking to a professional who is not a friend or relative can make all the difference, and my clients often express relief at getting things off their chest. Counselling provides you with a regular time and place to discuss and explore what is troubling you in a private and confidential space. A counsellor can help you develop better ways of coping, allowing you to move forward and get the most out of life.

  • Your search for a counsellor will depend on whether you want face-to-face or online therapy, which will determine whether location is important. Ensure that the counsellor is qualified and registered with a professional body. I am registered with BACP and NCPS. I am held accountable and follow the BACP ethical set of guidelines. I am also engaged in continued professional development and supervision. Supervision provides counsellors with regular and ongoing opportunities to reflect in-depth about all aspects of their practice in order to work as effectively, safely, and ethically as possible.

  • It is important that you find the right counsellor for you. This is where the free introductory call that I offer can be so helpful. I believe that how you connect with me as your counsellor influences how successful the therapy is since a good therapeutic relationship between us creates a positive psychological environment, which in turn is more likely to provide a successful counselling experience. It is also helpful to have an idea of the therapies on offer: some counsellors support working on your past, while others deal with the here and now. I work with both but will only suggest the one that suits your situation and with your agreement.

  • I offer all clients a free 20-minute introductory call. It gives us a chance to discuss what you are looking for and give you an idea of whether I may be someone you can work with. It also gives you the chance to ask questions about how I work, my fees, and my availability.

“Alice was so warm and made me feel comfortable right from the first session. I felt safe and able to open up straight away despite initially being anxious about starting my therapy journey. She helped me unpack my past and gave me the tools to understand my sense of self. I truly couldn’t recommend Alice highly enough.” — B.N.
